I am a recent arrival here; I used to watch the Speed Trials but was not involved in the club itself. I was more into motorbikes; I have been riding them for 20 years, since I was 16, culminating in racing Supermoto, Motocross and Enduro in my 30s.
This resulted in many broken bones which was getting tiring, and I don't heal like I used to! Also, my business (I run my own IT support company) was doing well and suddenly I could afford the sorts of cars that give similar excitement to bikes.
The RX-7 arrived. Already heavily modified when I got it, I have continued to improve it, adding uprated and better parts as I go along. It was recently corner-weighted at 1186kg wet, and makes 420 BHP at the flywheel, making it a match for most things.
I have added AP Racing brakes, Tein suspension and am constantly fiddling with the geometry to try and perfect the handling. It's half stripped inside; it still has most of the interior in the front, but has a 6-point roll cage and Recaro buckets with harnesses. Still road legal, but it is a bit much on the road and these days is almost solely for trackdays and racing.
I joined the car club in 2007 with the sole aim of entering the Speed Trials, which I duly did. In 2008 I entered a few sprints, winning my class (Modified Production over 2000cc) at Lydden three times, all rounds of the Tunbridge Wells Motor Club All Circuit Sprint Championship. I also took part in the Goodwood Sprint run by this club and not only won my class but also got the Fastest Time of the Day by a Club member, meaning I took home two trophies. It was a proud day for me.
Around this time I thought about getting involved more in the club. I joined the committee at the end of 2008, and was tasked with writing a new website...this one! I have put a lot of time into this, and made a personal project of the 'How to enter the Speed Trials page' as I did not find it easy when I first came to it. I have also dragged the club into the 21st century; we now have an email address!
2009; this year I want to win the whole of the All Circuit Sprint Championship. As I write this I have won the first round at Lydden, and in two days its round two at Goodwood. Bring it on! Andy |
